Four New Soybeans Calibrations Are Now Available

From The University of Minnesota (UMN)

On August 28th, 2006, Art Killam of the University of Minnesota announced that his NIR Soybeans Calibrations were now available for distribution. Mr. Killam announced that the calibrations would be available for the Perten and Foss NIR instruments at no charge, other than the cost of enrolling the calibrations into Caltest’s instrument and calibration monitoring program, and meeting the conditions below.

Price: $0.00

NIR Platforms:
  (a) Perten Instruments Model 7200
  (b) FOSS/NIRSystems Models 5000 and 6500

Sample Preparation:

All samples to be ground through a Perten Model 3600 plate mill. Alternate grinding techniques should be discussed with Mr. Killam. However, the calibrations may need to be expanded so as to make them more robust toward the alternate grinding technique.

Sample Presentation:
  (a) Perten Instruments Model 7200
Perten open round cup, single pack method
  (b) FOSS/NIRSystems Models 5000 and 6500
ISI Quarter Cup, single pack method

Calibration #1:
Proximates [Dry Matter Basis (DMB)] (N = 1571)
  Constituents (5): [1]Protein; [2]Oil (Hexane Extract); [3]Dry Matter (DM); [4]Crude Fiber (CF); [5]Ash

Calibration #2:
Fatty Acids [Dry Matter Basis (DMB)] (N = 1601)
Constituents (5): [1]Palmitic Acid (PALMITIC); [2]Stearic Acid (STEARIC); [3]Oleic Acid (OLEIC); [4]Linoleic Acid (LINOLEIC); [5]Linolenic Acid (LINOLEN)

Calibration #3:
Amino Acids [Dry Matter Basis (DMB)] (N = 829)
Constituents (18): [1]Aspartic Acid (ASP); [2]Threonine (THR); [3]Serine (SER); [4]Glutamic Acid (GLU); [5]Proline (PRO); [6]Glycine (GLY); [7]Alanine (ALA); [8]Cysteine (CYS); [9]Valine (VAL); [10]Methionine (MET); [11]Isoleucine (ILE); [12]Leucine (LEU); [13]Tyrosine (TYR); [14]Phenylalanine (PHE); [15]Histidine (HIS); [16]Lysine (LYS); [17]Arginine (ARG); [18]Tryptophan (TRY)

Calibration #4: Soluble Carbohydrates [Dry Matter Basis (DMB)] (N = 459)
  Constituents (4): [1]Stachyose (STACHY); [2]SUCROSE; [3]Raffinose (RAFFIN); [4]Fructose

Conditions for Acquisition:

  (a) User agrees to send all unique soybean samples to the University of Minnesota so that the unique samples can be added to the calibrations to make them more robust. The University of Minnesota will then return to all users of the calibration(s) a more robust calibration.

  (b) User agrees to have Caltest, LLC monitor user’s instrument and all (UMN) soybeans calibrations in use at user’s site (this is a service-for-fee based program)

  (c) User agrees to allow Caltest, LLC to alert the University of Minnesota when it detects a unique soybean sample and deliver to the University the user’s Wet-Lab results and NIR spectrum of that sample.
